Breast Cancer by the Numbers

Breast Cancer remains the most frequently diagnosed Cancer in Women across the United States. Each year, hundreds of thousands of Women are diagnosed, and tens of thousands lose their lives to the disease. Current estimates show that 1 in 8 Women will face a Breast Cancer diagnosis during her lifetime, and for Women in their 50s, the risk is about 1 in 42 within that decade alone.

To improve outcomes, several screening methods are available today — from Self-Exams and Clinical Breast Exams to Mammography, Handheld Ultrasound, and MRI. While each plays an important role, all of these tools have certain limitations, leaving room for more accurate, patient-friendly technologies to enhance early detection.

Why Mammograms Aren't Always Enough

  • Mammography is still considered the standard tool for Breast Cancer Screening, with guidelines recommending Annual Exams starting at age 40.

  • Yet, fewer than two-thirds of women stay up to date with these screenings — even though they’re covered by insurance.

  • Part of the challenge is that Mammograms have Limitations: Results can be less reliable for women with dense breast tissue, often leading to inconclusive findings and additional testing. For women with implants, mammograms can also be painful, less effective, and raise concerns about safety.

  • At Perk Imaging, our mission is to provide a safer, more accurate, and Pain-Free alternative. The Breast QTscan™ is designed to detect cancer earlier, while also helping to reduce unnecessary callbacks and biopsies for benign conditions like cysts.

Having Dense Breasts

  • Many women have Dense Breasts, which Mammograms are Inefficient in Screening for Cancer.

  • 50% of Women between the ages of 40-74 in the US have Dense Breasts, and 50% have another Type of Tissue.

  • In 84% of cases observed in a recent mini-study, QT Scanner identified Abnormalities in Dense Breasts that were not identified by X-Ray Mammograms.

  • The FDA has recognized the importance of Breast Density in Breast Cancer Screening

  • Mammograms Must Include Breast Density Information, New FDA Rule Says.

  • About half of the Women over the age of 40 in the U.S. have Dense Breast Tissue, which can make Cancer Scans hard to read.
